On my own

{July 20, 2006}   A terrifying day in the bank

Three months ago, when I was in the bank , I had a terrifying experience. The incident ocurred in Banesco where I hardly ever go because of the enormous queues. Although I don’t go there to make big transactions, I’ve always  liked to go with someone else. However, this time was different. I took advantage the two hours free before going to work, and went straight to the bank alone to get information about a loan. It was about 11:30 am. I had already wasted more than an hour and a half, seating in a chair,  waiting for my turn impatiently. Suddendly, I heard someone who yelled “Don’t move, this’s a robbery” while he was pointing a old woman’s neck with a gun. There was a deep silence for about 10 minutes. All of clients were frightened. Nobody knew what it would happen. At first I thought I was already dead, because I could realize that they were three men. A short one was near the cashiers asking for the money, the other one in the middle of the bank watching around, and one more in the gateway. This last one hurried the others, because the alarms started ringing. When the short man picked the money, the old woman was released, even though she was still inside the bank, no weapons could hurt. Then, the watchman went out to see what was happening, it was too late. The thieves had already left the bank. So , the manager closed the door in order to wait for the police agents to ask for some questions. After that, we could leave. Despite  nobody was physically hurt, everybody was in shock.  I thought I would never go out the bank, at least alive, but fortunately it was just a fright, which taught me to value every minute of my existence, to thank God for the marvelous family I have, and not to go the bank anymore.
